TAKE ACTION

North Plains is barreling toward unprecedented expansion, but it’s not too late to build a right sized-plan for compact, rural city with services that work. Join us in demanding a well considered plan for North Plains.  There are lots of ways to help below!

Friends of North Plains Smart Growth filed a referendum on 9/19/23 to overturn the City Council’s vote to expand the city limits by 2.2 times. This organization is separate from Farmland First, and more information about how to engage will be on their website, coming shortly.

You can engage through Farmland First by:

  • Signing this petition to let decision makers know that Oregonians care about the issue and want to protect farmland and land use in the state.

  • Volunteering for the cause: contact farmlandfirstor@gmail.com

  • Giving testimony. Washington County is now reviewing the city’s decision, so it’s the perfect time to give testimony. Please refer to this link to our testimony tips and talking points.

    • Written: Please refer to Ordinance No. 899 and address your comments to the Planning Commission (lutplanningcommission@washingtoncountyor.gov) and County Board (WashCoClerk@washingtoncountyor.gov). Try to submit by the October 18 Planning Commission meeting, or at least by the November 28 Board meeting.

    • Oral testimony will be taken at the Planning Commission (Oct. 18) and Board (Nov. 28).

  • Donate to Farmland First to support our legal and outreach efforts.
